Mom & Co. is a mother daughter owned business featuring handmade affordable gifts for babies and children. The items we make were originally designed, with love, for our own children and grandchildren.
As a child, I loved learning to sew and creating my own designs. When I became a mom, I enjoyed making my girls matching outfits with coordinating accessories. While the girls were growing up, I taught elementary school. As I created visual aids for my classroom or worked on lesson plans, they sat beside me at their little school desks crafting.
My husband and I settled in Northwestern Illinois just a few miles from our childhood homes. You can imagine our surprise when our two older girls announced that they were going into the military. Sharing our newest craft or sewing project became a way of keeping in touch while they were away, and each year they made special plans to come home so we could all participate in a local craft fair together. Now they also enjoy sewing and crafting for, and with, their own children. Although our youngest daughter hasn’t joined the business yet, she says she shares her craft as a cosmetologist by keeping us looking up to date.
Although we crafted together for years, we didn’t start Mom & Co. until I retired in 2009. I loved having more time to sew, but after teaching 25 of a 35 year career at the kindergarten level, I found it difficult to stop sharing innovative ways to get kids excited about books and reading. I guess it was only natural that many of the new items created for Mom & Co. are designed to help instill a love of reading.
Although the girls now live in 3 different states, we still enjoy getting together to design items for our little ones and for Mom & Co. There is such satisfaction that comes from designing something for another individual’s enjoyment. We are excited to share our ideas with you. Enjoy!
